Hepatitis B vaccination if you have HIV
Always notify your vaccination provider if you are HIV-positive, as you will need a double dose of the hepatitis B vaccination. In most cases, you will already have received the vaccination through your HIV treatment provider. If in doubt, inquire at your HIV treatment centre.
Vaccination is especially important if your combination therapy does not include tenofovir (Viread). Tenofovir has been shown to suppress both HIV and the hepatitis B virus. It is extra important to get vaccinated if you switch to a combination that does not include tenofovir.
